PATENT CO. proudly announces cooperation with Ghent University on MYTOX-SOUTH®!
We, at Patent Co are dedicatedly working on our goal: healthy animals, healthy people, healthy planet. For us this is more than a statement – it is a mindset. When we learned about MYTOX-SOUTH®, we instantly wanted to participate and provide support through sponsorship.
The goal of MYTOX-SOUTH® is to tackle mycotoxin problems, along with associated food safety and food security issues through sustainable partnerships. The idea connects partners from the Southern hemisphere with the expertise and infrastructure available at Ghent University, to improve food security and safety through mitigation of mycotoxins at global level with the following long-term goals:
- Building human capacity – networking through collaboration is key in human capacity building. Strengthening the human capacity of partners in the South is essential to mentor a new breed of innovators and young researchers whose expertise is intimately tied to health outcomes.
- Bridging the gap – Mycotoxin contamination of food and feed requires a development and research policy which translates research outcomes into practical ways which can bridge the gap between (1) research and the development of more safe food & feed, and (2) different actors including farmer organizations, NGO’s such as Mycotoxicology Associations, the private sector and policy makers.
- Creating a sustainable network – MYTOX-SOUTH® will contribute to the coordination of research actors to focus skills and resources, and to improve the communication between research and non-research actors.
The MYTOX-SOUTH network is organized in 4 main expertise units: 1) toxigenic moulds, 2) mycotoxins’ occurrence, 3) mycotoxins and human health and 4) mycotoxins and animal health. Within this framework, focus will be set towards building capacity on three cornerstones: RESEARCH, EDUCATION and SERVICE TO SOCIETY.
